Residents in Dairy Medicine and Production

Faculty of Veterinary Science
The University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Veterinary Science in partnership with the Gardiner Foundation, Dairy Australia and three elite Victorian rural veterinary centres are seeking three bovine veterinarians with 3 - 4 years’ experience to be appointed to one of three practices as a Resident in Dairy Medicine and Production for a fixed term of three years. The successful applicants will be employed by the University of Melbourne to provide tutorials to final year BVSc students, enrol in a Master of Veterinary Science program through the Faculty of Veterinary Science (funded by the University) and work as a clinician in the veterinary practice to which they are placed. The Resident will be remunerated by the practice for all out of hours work performed in their clinical role in the practice.
Veterinary capacity to the dairy industry will be enhanced through this project by placing residents in three, well managed rural practices with competency in dairy clinical and consultancy skills that undertake relevant field-based research. In addition, the residents will be supervised by University of Melbourne academic staff in collaboration with Dairy Australia to generate knowledge pertinent to the goals of the dairy industry through research based in their veterinary practice and in commercial dairy herds. The provision of practice experience to the residents will enhance their skills in dairy medicine developing their whole herd management knowledge, extension and communication skills, and ensuring participation in knowledge transfer activities to the dairy industry.
Salary: $57,293 - $58,919 p.a. plus 9% super.
